Mephistopheles Faust Devil Goethe bookends in sanded aluminum (pair)
Large, super-heavy Mephistopheles Faust Bookends in sanded aluminum. Mephistopheles is a devil who appears in Goethe's Faust to tempt Faust into selling his soul to the powers of darkness. Mephistopheles also appears, with his name spelled Mephistophilis, in the sixteenth-century English play Dr. Faustuys by Christopher Marlowe.
From our research these were designed in the 1970's or 80's.. (in the U.S.A.) and very few were made... did you ever see them before? Very few were ever produced in sanded aluminum METAL- very rare! These bookends are old stock and they are very very heavy (pair = 9-1/2 lb!) and really work holding a stack of books! Sold by the pair. There are no markings on the bookends. There are no chips or cracks. There is cork on the bottom.
